Patty Griffin is an astounding singer and writer. She is a force of nature in the truest sense – elemental and cosmic, she blows by you before you even realize what has happened. She’s been covered and admired by Emmylou Harris to the Dixie Chicks, nominated for Grammies, and admired by devotees near and far, of whom I am certainly one. Patty always makes me shake my head. She’s so quick to laugh, and her kindness puts you right at ease. Her openness disarms me. As we talked in a bungalow at the lovely St Cecilia, I almost forgot the raw power she can summon at any moment, until, with her red hair flying, it was at her fingertips. Thanks to Patty, of whom I am a humble student. |
